The Port Askaig Distillery, located in the village of Port Askaig on the Isle of Islay, Scotland, was founded in 2009 by Specialty Drinks Ltd, a company of Elixir Distillers. Named after the nearby historic port, which was once an important gateway to the island, the distillery stands for traditional Islay whisky making.
This Port Askaig cask strength single malt whisky has been matured in a careful combination of Pedro Ximénez sherry butts, oloroso butts and bourbon barrels. The whisky comes from a small selection of a maximum of 60 casks from a distillery on the north coast of Islay. This is also where the village of Port Askaig is located, which has been known as the gateway to the island for centuries.
For Port Askaig's single malts, casks are selected from a secret Islay distillery, which can vary from bottling to bottling. This concept reflects the diversity and distinctive character of Islay whiskies and makes each bottling a unique experience.
