In the late 1990s, a group of friends had the ambitious plan to establish the first whisky distillery in Wales for over a century. Their aim was to create a whisky as pure and precious as Welsh gold. In 2004, on St. David's Day, this dream became a reality when Penderyn Whisky saw the light of day. The distillery owes its uniqueness in part to the copper still with a special still designed by Dr. David Faraday. It is located in the village of Penderyn, at the southern end of the Brecon Beacons. The pure spring water from the region contributes significantly to the quality of the exceptional Penderyn whiskies.
The red dragon that proudly adorns the flag of Wales stands under the motto "Y ddraig goch ddyry cychwyn", which translates as "This fiery creature was brought to Wales by the Romans". The dragon is an important figure in numerous Celtic myths and is now seen as a symbol for the entire nation.
