In the late 1990s, a group of friends had the ambitious plan to establish the first whisky distillery in Wales for over a century. Their aim was to create a whisky as pure and precious as Welsh gold. In 2004, on St. David's Day, this dream became a reality when Penderyn Whisky saw the light of day. The distillery owes its uniqueness in part to the copper still with a special still designed by Dr. David Faraday. It is located in the village of Penderyn, at the southern end of the Brecon Beacons. The pure spring water from the region contributes significantly to the quality of the exceptional Penderyn whiskies.
Aur Cymru, which translates as "Gold of Wales", is a symbol of the rebirth of Welsh whisky distillation after more than 100 years. This rare and precious whisky marks a significant new beginning and combines tradition and craftsmanship. After distillation, Aur Cymru is first matured in selected ex-bourbon casks before being given its distinctive finish in traditional Madeira casks.
