Sweden originally had no whisky tradition until the Mackmyra distillery was founded in 1999. The distillery places great emphasis on using only Swedish products, including crystal-clear water from the region and specially grown barley with a sweet note due to the long summer days.
This Mackmyra whisky is matured in a variety of cask sizes, including ex-bourbon American oak casks, Swedish oak casks and Oloroso sherry casks, giving it a variety of flavors.
A special note is the "Swedish smoke", which is created through the use of local peat and juniper twigs. This gives the peated whisky a unique flavor profile reminiscent of a campfire in the forest. The peat used comes from the Karinmossen bog near the distillery.
Nose: Campfire smoke, juniper, citrus fruits, vanilla.
Taste: Dry oak, herbs, green fruits, vanilla.
Finish: Long lasting, notes of oak, herbs.
