Tweaking our process like this requires expertise, a bold sense of creativity, a dash of intuition – and perhaps even good luck. In the case of Elements 3.0 it was by chance that our team discovered a fire burning for longer and at higher temperatures than usual in our kiln. They used their curiosity and skill to channel that chance event into this remarkable small batch single malt scotch.
Laphroaig’s whiskies are always richly flavoured and characterful – and Elements 3.0 is certainly no exception. It’s a perfect third component to the series made up of Elements 1.0 and Elements 2.0, which experimented with changing wort and mash tun size, and fermentation times. With Elements 3.0, heat was the focus, creating a flavour profile that ranges from chocolate and spice to leather and sooty chimney smoke on the finish.
