The GlenDronach distillery, founded in 1826 by James Allardice, looks back on a long tradition of whisky production. GlenDronach Port Wood Single Malt Scotch Whisky was inspired by the historic import of port wine in casks to Scotland in the 19th century. In the 1800s, port wine was of great importance in Scotland, especially for the Scottish aristocracy. The finest port wines traveled along the Douro River from Portugal to Scotland and had a lasting influence on the whisky tradition.
GlenDronach Port Wood is first matured in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks before undergoing additional maturation in port casks in which the finest port wine was previously stored for three years. This whisky is neither chill-filtered nor given any additional coloring, which preserves its natural purity and deep, fruity aromas.
The combination of these cask types gives GlenDronach Port Wood its characteristic depth and complexity, which is appreciated by whisky connoisseurs all over the world.
