Benromach 2014/2024 Cask Strength
Benromach Cask Strength Batch #3 was a fiery, flavorful anchor, bold, peated, and unapologetically Speyside. It brought energy and edge to the night, balancing the elegance of older drams with raw intensity. Distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2024, this 9-year-old single malt came in hot at a formidable 60.6% ABV, matured in a mix of first-fill bourbon and sherry casks. The club welcomed it as a youthful contrast to the evening’s older, more refined pours. Known as the “Springbank of Speyside,” Benromach’s traditional approach, peat smoke, rich cask influence, and no chill filtration, made this bottle feel like a throwback with teeth. It was the kind of whisky that didn’t ask for attention, it took it. And the club was ready. The nose hit with cigars and worn leather, wet earth, and a touch of cranberry and orange peel. On the palate, it was a riot of creamy sweet peat, brown sugar, clove, and walnut, with a finish that lingered on black pepper, sticky toffee, and dark chocolate.
