Since 2003, the renowned Edradour distillery has been producing its heavily peated whisky under the name Ballechin, using malt kilned with a minimum phenol content of 50 ppm. The single malt matures for ten years in a carefully curated selection of ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks. This combination of American and European oak imparts remarkable depth to the spirit. Bottled at 46% ABV, the distillery consistently refrains from chill filtration and the addition of colorings to preserve the pure character of the spirit.
In the glass, the whisky presents itself in a natural, golden amber hue. The aroma opens with a dense, herbaceous peat smoke, underpinned by sweet toffee and delicate vanilla. On the palate, the Ballechin is full-bodied and intense, with the distinctive smoke harmoniously blending with notes of caramel, cinnamon, and ripe fruit. The texture remains consistently present, leading to a medium-length, balanced finish that underscores the whisky's craftsmanship.
