Amrut 5yo Master Distiller's Reserve Stout Cask Finish is the second expression in the annual series of single casks selected by the Master Distiller, Ashok Chokalingam. It is the first time an Indian single malt has been aged in a cask containing a stout beer, itself brewed in Bangalore, India. This expression is made from Indian malted barley double-distilled in a pot still. Limited edition of 282 bottles worldwide.

Nose

This expression is definitely darker than Amrut's Single Malt, richer in chocolate, dark plums, with a quite evident roasted nuttiness and even some oak. Difficult to identify the tropical fruit which is typical of Amrut's spirit, even though the end result is quite enjoyable. 50% abv

Palate

The palatal experience come back to the inner spirit of Amrut, with the ripe tropical mango and papaya upfront for a nice fruity side, which is however enveloped by a more acidic character. The sensation is of a very strange type of light and aromatic chocolate with acidic tones provided by roasted Indian coffee. Not fully integrated, yet rather original.

Finish

Medium, battling between the fruity side and the acidic, less pleasant aspect.
