Bastard is the second bottling in Stauning's Research Series. This range is a playground where traditions are liberated and space is created for experimentation.

Each bottling is designed by an artist, the artwork from Bastard was created by tattoo artist Thit Hansgaard. She works as a tattoo artist at Sinner Inc Art Collective in Aarhus, Denmark.

A meeting of the wind of the North Sea with the desert of Mexico. An illicit love affair of double distilled rye whisky aged in old mezcal barrels.

This bastard is a rye whiskey made exclusively from local ingredients and double distilled in pot stills at Stauning Distillery.

After a 3 year maturation in new toasted American oak virgin casks, it receives a 6 month finish in old mezcal casks from Mexico's Oro de Oaxaca.

The result is an elegant love child that can't be found anywhere else in the world.

Unfiltered and without chill filtration. 100% handmade.

Tasting notes:

Nose: Sweet pipe tobacco smoke, raisins, oatmeal cookies, citrus, oak.

Taste: Tobacco, vanilla, barley, dried fruit, cinnamon, brown sugar, molasses, shortbread, oak.

Finish: Long lasting, smoky, salty, brown sugar, pepper.
