The Tamdhu Distillery is characterized by its use of Oloroso sherry casks, which play a central role in the maturation of its whiskies. These specially selected casks, made from a rare type of oak, are crucial to the development of the whisky’s unique characteristics in terms of color and taste.

The staves of the casks are first dried in the Mediterranean sun before experienced coopers assemble and toast them. This preparation is followed by maturation with Oloroso sherry before the casks are transported to Tamdhu for final maturation. During storage, the young new-make spirit interacts with the American oak of the sherry cask, resulting in the development of rich fruity aromas and a deep, natural amber color.
