Masahiro Distillery was founded in 1883 by Shobun Higa, whose father, Shozoku Higa, was the master chef of the old Ryukyu Kingdom.
With the help of Shozoku Higa’s reputation and connections, the distillery obtained a license to produce the traditional Okinawan spirit «awamori» and has since established itself as one of Okinawa’s oldest and largest distilleries.
Shozoku’s passion for cuisine is still reflected in Masahiro Distillery’s corporate philosophy of producing only the finest spirits.
Masahiro 12 Years Old is distilled from 100% malted barley. This whiskey spends over 11 years in ex-bourbon American oak hoghead casks and matures for another 12 months in oloroso sherry casks.
