Located in the west of the famous whisky island of Islay, the Kilchoman distillery is one of the younger distilleries in the region. Unlike many other distilleries on Islay, Kilchoman is not located directly on the coast, which is one reason for the special aroma of its whisky. Kilchoman has coined the term «farm distillery», as some of the barley used is grown on its own fields.

It is worth noting that the distillery also malts some of the highly smoky malt itself and dries it on site in its own kiln. Kilchoman «100% Islay» only uses malt produced on the island of Islay, which further emphasizes the regional character of this whisky.

Like the classic Sanaig, the exclusive Kilchoman Sanaig matures predominantly in Oloroso sherry casks. However, in this case it was bottled at its natural cask strength of 57.8% vol., which allows its intense aroma and strength of character to come into their own.
