The Glenmorangie distillery, founded in 1843 in the Scottish Highlands near Tain, is famous for its exquisite single malt Scotch whiskies. These are distilled in the highest stills in Scotland, resulting in a particularly fine and mild distillate. Glenmorangie is known for its innovative cask finishing technique, which matures whiskies in different types of casks such as port, sherry and wine casks, giving them a unique depth of flavor.
Glenmorangie also has a strong focus on sustainability, with initiatives to reduce CO2 emissions and reuse water, making the distillery a pioneer not only in the whisky industry but also in global spirits production. The distillery remains true to its heritage while continuously working to minimize its environmental footprint while maintaining the quality of its whiskies.
Glenmorangie 12 Years Old Palo Cortado Barrel Select Release marks a first for the Glenmorangie brand as it is the first whisky to be matured in the exceptionally rare Palo Cortado sherry casks. This exquisite Highland whisky spends a total of 12 years in casks, eight of which are in American white oak bourbon casks and the remaining time in Palo Cortado casks. Dr. Bill Lumsden, inspired by the smooth and mellow character of the whisky, chose a special batch of the single malt to be finished in Palo Cortado casks. Palo Cortado, the rarest of all sherry varieties, is the result of a random process in which no protective flor yeast is formed.
