The Balvenie Distillery, which has been producing high-quality whisky since 1892, still preserves many traditional methods in its production process. For example, the barley is still grown on site and the distillery uses a traditional malting floor – a rarity in the modern whisky industry. In addition, Balvenie employs its own team of coopers who are responsible for maintaining and repairing the casks to ensure optimum quality throughout the maturation process.
The Balvenie 12 Year Old The Sweet Toast of American Oak is a remarkable bottling from the Balvenie Stories series, which tells the story of up-and-coming whisky expert Kelsey McKechnie. Following in the footsteps of whisky legend David Stewart, the young Scot is personally trained by him to one day take over his position at William Grant & Sons.
For this special bottling, Kelsey had fresh American white oak casks imported from Kentucky, which were double toasted in Balvenie’s own cooperage. These casks were used to mature a Balvenie single malt that had previously been aged for several years in ex-bourbon casks. The result is an exceptionally fruity and vanilla-sweet whisky that bears the signature of a new generation of whisky craftsmen. (automated translation)
