Descripción
With Askeim 8 y.o., Smögen is venturing into a new brand that aims to revive the long-forgotten aromas of classic barley varieties. The focus is on the philosophy of putting taste and character above yield and production costs. To achieve this, the distillery uses lower-yielding, but more flavorful grain varieties, which are characterized by their individuality and give the Askeim brand an unmistakable identity.
The first Askeim bottling is based on the lightly peated Golden Promise barley variety, a variety that was particularly influential in whisky production in the 1970s. Today, Golden Promise is mainly used in the production of full-bodied British ales and has largely been replaced by higher-yielding varieties in the whisky industry. With this bottling, Smögen is specifically drawing on this traditional barley and preserving a piece of whisky history that should appeal to connoisseurs and lovers of classic flavors.
