The Balvenie Distillery, which has been producing high-quality whisky since 1892, still preserves many traditional methods in its production process. For example, the barley is still grown on site and the distillery uses a traditional malting floor - a rarity in the modern whisky industry. In addition, Balvenie employs its own team of coopers who are responsible for maintaining and repairing the casks to ensure optimum quality throughout the maturation process.
The Balvenie has added a remarkable new addition to its renowned Cask Finishes range: The Balvenie 12 Year Old Golden Cask, a tropical-inspired single malt that has been shaped by the influences of two different climates.
The maturation process of this whisky begins with 12 years of ageing in traditional ex-bourbon casks, giving it the typical Balvenie notes of warm honey and soft vanilla. The whisky is then finished in special rum casks developed by Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie at The Balvenie's Speyside distillery.
This unique process combines the mild warmth and tropical flavors of Caribbean rums with the precision of the slower maturation process in Scotland. As Kelsey McKechnie explains: "The carefully selected rum blend has created casks that are perfectly prepared to further refine our 12 year old whisky. The resulting whisky is a harmonious combination of tropical freshness and characteristic depth." (automated translation)
