This special edition from Gordon & MacPhail was created to celebrate the life of George Urquhart – fondly known as Mr George by those who knew him best. His contributions to the world of whisky marked him out as a true pioneer, so much so that he was dubbed ‘the father of single malt’ by renowned whisky writer Charlie MacLean. As the second-generation of his family to own the company, he created the Connoisseurs Choice range in 1968 to showcase single malt whiskies that were mostly destined for blending, including his personal favourite, Glen Grant.
The third edition in the Legacy series, this 1959 Glen Grant was aged in a first-fill sherry butt for 63 long years before being bottled at natural cask strength, lending it rich aromas of autumnal spices and dried fruits. The palate offers red fruits and berries, along with Seville oranges and oaky cocoa powder that linger to the cinnamon-filled finish. Truly an expression that George Urquhart would be proud of. 56.5% abv.
